Quick pic-Track meet

Terrell senior Carnell Horn took a convincing win in the 400m race to advance to state... Carnell Horn-0423

I happen to also have a 16-35mm lens on loan from CPS, so it was a good day to play with that and the nice cloudy blue sky.

Relays... no clean background for the exchanges though... Track-0361

There was a much better spot for the 300m hurdles.. good sun position and background... Track-0462

Track-0478

The 16-35 is nice, if distorted at 16mm. It may be a little bit too wide to use as a normal carry-around lens though. Don J.

Quick Pic - Dancer

This year's edition of the Terrell High School Tigerette show was quite photogenic, with lots of creative costuming and such.

A group from a college dance team in Dallas performed for the crowd as well... it is always nice to work in nice theatrical lighting with graceful subjects.

Quick Pic - Spinny things

Carnival rides make for fun long-exposure shots. I was trying to get something for the top of the Tribune's Facebook page, and this worked very nicely.

I liked this angle because it got the two main rides closer together, but it did not work for the very horizontal layout of the Facebook timeline header photo.

And another just for fun.

Quick Pic - Wheels

The Terrell Heritage Jubilee is this weekend, which provides countless photo ops if you have some free time. The carnival rides are just about ready to go. Having the rides up, but no people makes for a strange feel in photos, I think.

The ferris wheel is set up across what are normally handicap parking places. That makes for a strange combination of wheels.

Quick Pic - Squirrel

Shooting some golf on Monday I ran across this guy. Lots of squirrels about these days. Some lucky ones like this. Others not so lucky on the roads. As with retirees, the golf course home seems like the ideal situation.

Have a great week.

Alan + Nevada

I don't get a lot of time to do weddings, portraits and such, but when some friends are flexible and the schecule works out, it certainly is a lot of fun. Alan and Nevada will tie the knot in July, but we got to hang out for a couple of hours last Saturday evening.

First things first... photographing folks with great personalities is a huge plus, and these two are pretty much naturals in front of the camera.

Second, it wasn't quite 'golden hour' light yet, but we found some good light and fun backgrounds around downtown Terrell.

Old storefronts are abundant.

And random spots of nice, shady light

Shady spots are good, but you still have to look at where the light is coming from. I did not have any helpers for reflectors or lights, so I packed very light. Just a fill flash here and there and available light for this shoot.

When in doubt, jump.
